Ta-da!! I'm so excited to share this idea with you!My little J loves books. He really doesn't want to read them himself yet but he loves to be read to and will lay down and look at a book for 10 to 20 minutes sometimes. (Behavior we've yet to see with W.)
So when I picked up this plate rack at the thrift store for a mere $3.00 I decided to re-purpose it as a book rack! (The only alteration we made was to add a thin strip of wood to the bottom so the books would not fall out.) This is mounted right beside the bookshelf in their bedroom and easily displays four books (as you can see). This allows J the opportunity to SEE the covers of his books and therefore generates even more interest in reading. Libraries do it all the time so I figured I could too. What J's been doing is displaying the four books he's most interested in and then switching them out as we read them.
He's had some fun with it and to be honest I would be thrilled if W picked up a little interest too. He's loves art and he loves stories so it may work. We'll see.
Thanks Heather!
ReplyDeleteOne of my teacher's just recently recommended guttering for this purpose! How cool. Yours is much prettier of course!
ReplyDeleteThanks Courtney, you know, I almost wondered if it was too pretty for a boys room. But they like it.
