Mom read a story from the local paper about 2 middle class
families that lived on food stamps for a week
and what that was like for them

Mom read from "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"

Art-

free time to paint- big boy painted 2 landscapes and little boy painted 2 abstract

PE-

swim practice at Grandma's house

Terrific Artistic Tuesday

Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy art. Whether it's painting or drawing or weaving, I love the process!

In our homeschool today we celebrated "Terrific Artistic Tuesday" (a concept I borrowed my friend over at Inspiration Station) by busting out the pattern blocks and using them to create a picture and then paint it. Well, that was the idea anyway...I'm the only one who actually did the project as assigned! My big boy (6) used the blocks to create an interesting shape and then traced around the entire thing and called it an underwater robot monster. My little boy (4) painted lines and puddles of every color all over the page and then traced around the circle block with orange to make a sun.

I know it sounds like I didn't explain the project very well but I think I did. I told them they could make patterned snakes or geometric flowers, houses or landscapes with the blocks. I also told them it was their choice and they know that with art I enforce no rules. So they had fun doing it their own way.

Anyway, in addition to "Terrific Artistic Tuesday", we will also be enjoying...

Like I said I borrowed this idea from my friend's blog...I did change a couple of them a bit to suit my goals and our family but for the most part I can take no credit.

New school

I've often said that if there is a difficult way to do something you can leave it to me to find it. It seems I always find myself swimming upstream when really I should relax and let God guide me. Anyway, I've revamped my homeschooling plan to match the natural flow of our day better. I've grouped our activities together in a way that makes more sense for us. So if you're interested keep reading, if not this whole post will be about this so you may want to do something else.

Praise time...

this will be our time to praise God. It'll be after breakfast and will include; Bible memory, Piano practice and then singing songs together. We'll probably go back to learning hymns together. We used to do this and we really enjoyed it. Our favorites are, Nothing but the Blood of Jesus, and What a Friend We Have in Jesus.

Table time...

this is our 3 r's time. Phonics, spelling, sight words, math, handwriting. What we'll do is one boy on the computer playing a game...like on starfall.com or playing a math game, while the other boy is at the table with me doing worksheets (just a few), and then we'll switch.

Read time...

this will take place after we eat lunch and clean up and will consist of the boys reading to me and then me reading to them. I will most likely read literature and social studies or science stuff to them at this time. We love to read together...it is truely one of our favorite things.

Project or game time...

if we have a project to go with social studies or science this will be the time to do it, if not we'll play a game indoors or out!
