I'll be reading this book to the kids at church and using this layered book and these kindness and beauty matchbooks(offered as a part of the unit study) as activities to go with it.

Cooking and Food
I'll be serving warm refried black beans on white rolls to the kids. My friend Kari (see below) says this meal is as common in Guatemala as peanut butter and jelly is in America.
Missionaries
This is a picture of my friend Kari, who goes on short term mission trips to Guatemala twice a year. She's been going for 7 seven years now and has seen many lives changed...and not just the people being served. The people doing the serving are greatly impacted as well.
Kari and her team partner with four church's, a couple of doctors and a dentist in Guatemala to offer a one day free health clinic to the poorest of the poor living in this area. (They actually offer 4 days of free healthcare but it's one day per church.) Kari and several other volunteers share the gospel with those who are waiting to see the doctor or dentist. They also play games, sing songs,and color with the kids.
If you notice Kari is holding a couple of polaroid photos in her hands. One way she blesses the people she meets at the clinic is by taking their photo and then giving it to them. For some this may be the only photo they have of themselves and so they get very excited!
