My Hero

Yesterday was a particularly rough day here at Life and Love Learning Center. J and I seemed to be working against each other and though I believe he was unaware of it, for me it couldn't have been more obvious. I spent nearly as much time trying to keep him in his chair and focused as I did trying to educate him. (This is an ongoing problem.) Now I get that he's 5 and a boy, and I get that he has lots of time to learn all that he needs to. Believe me when I say usually I am a pretty relaxed homeschool mommy and usually we figure out a way to get things done with minimal conflict. Yesterday just really got to me and I had my first melt down of the school year. (Luckily I was able to put this off until after the boys bed time.)

Enter "My Hero"...

With tears in my eyes I let my hubby in on all that has frustrated and concerned me this year. Usually I try not to overwhelm him with this stuff, I mean that's what my homeschooling girlfriends are for right? (They have the experience to help me and encourage me.) But this time I let it all hang out and guess what...he saved the day.

It just so happened that he didn't have to work today until 1 pm, so he took over part of our day today!!! I read to them (Bible and History) and they read to me and then he did the rest.

It was such a relief, I washed dishes and cleaned the kitchen and listened in as he taught language arts and math. I got a partial day off with out sacrificing a school day!! He also said he'd be willing to do this a couple of times a month if needed. What a man!

By the way, J was 100% attentive with his daddy as his teacher. Now that I know it can be done we will focus on training in that area.

Any suggestions??

  1. Penny - What a gift you and your hubby are giving W and J. I read your blog and just think about how wonderful and awesome it is that YOU get to be the one to educate them and you are doing a great job. Now to have their daddy being a part of that...it's awesome! You guys rock!

Some day if we decide to finally adopt I hope to be able to homeschool our children.
